New addition to the fam

So I've been busy with nursing school and now 3 wks later our baby girl Isabella.  Hopefully during Decembers intercession I will have some time to do some quick crafts for you guys!  In the meantime I took some photos of our little girl and man it's harder than it seems.  You think they are content and sleeping the whole time but not our girl.  She freaked out each time I put her in a basket or table or some other random place to take pics.  Poor Bella!  I think I will print these with tissue paper and put on the canvas like I did for my friend earlier in the year.

New flooring and nursery update!

So I'm now 7 months preggo and decided to put in a laminate wood flooring before baby comes to this world.  It was fairly easy to put in once we got going.  Here's a pic of the new flooring.  Great color in the room....rustic and won't show scratches.
I put the crib up in the nursery/office so I'm almost done.  I redid the closet so it's a changing area and storage.  I had an old bookshelf that I painted and then bought some Martha Stewart cubes for storage at Home Depot.  I just bought a dresser from Walmart so I'm going to put that together soon.  Almost done!

I think our "kids" will share the crib once baby arrives!  :)

Before/After flooring

We finished the flooring in the office/nursery.  I will post pics of the finished nursery/office this weekend.  My in laws are coming to help paint and put in a shed (thank you!).  I can't wait for all this stuff to have a permanent place to be instead of garage and hall.
Hubby sanded the funky painted floors.  Thank you hubby!

Stained with a Minwax water based stain that was in a tube....fast and easy!  The floor looks better than in this pic.

Flower Tower

I painted 4 different sized pots and just piled them up on top of each other.  They look great by our door.  It brings color to the front porch for the spring/summer!

animal canvases

So we are expecting in October and don't want to know the sex so I needed to come up with some colors that were unisex.  I have been nesting big time before I start my nursing program in June so I ripped the carpet up (wood floors under it) in the office, now office/nursery and will have it sanded and stained.  I made some animal canvases that I think will look great in the nursery/office when done.  My hubby will be painting the room grey.  I was told I can't do any painting, hard labor (except in Oct) and anything I love to do but I will be patient until the baby is here.  :)  These canvases were done with acrylic paint so no harm done.  The rhino needed to be painted a 2nd coat.   Done.  Next on my list....painting curtains.  Again acrylic paint so no harm done.  I will post that once it's done.

OK OK the floor looks like crap right now but when my hubby is done sanding and staining it (with nontoxic stain) it will look really good!  Now that may take days, months, years for my hubby to finish, but once it's done I will post a pic.  :)

I free handed these once I saw some ideas on Pinterest.

Sunburst Mirror and Chevron Things

I did lots of crafting this week so here you go:

Here's the before valance I had on the kitchen windows that I did for VERY cheap when we moved here.  I needed an update but didn't want to spend any money.

All I did was get painters tape, leftover wall paint and white fabric I had.  I laid out the painters tape about every 4 cm and then painted with a small roller.  Let it dry, sew the top so it can attach to the rod and hung!

Sunburst Mirror

The sunburst mirror was made by buying a mirror from Hobby Lobby and using bamboo skewers I bought at Wal-Mart for a dollar.  I hot glued them on the opposite side of mirror and spray painted them metallic silver.

I'm finally done with the painted chevron rug.  I used a Home Depot drop cloth, chevron pattern I cut out with carboard, painters tape and a quart of red wall paint.  It took forever just because of the chevron pattern.  I put polyurethane on it so it would be dirt free (it's supposed to protect it from stains but I think I needed to put another coat of it on....it soaked up a quart of polyurethane so I didn't go back to the store to buy more.)

I bought chevron fabric from fabric.com and put a Home Depot drop cloth on bottom of the fabric.  I sewed the edges under and then hot glued a rug stopper to the bottom so it wouldn't slide everywhere.  I then gave 3 coats of polyurethane (water based) on the chevron fabric so it would resist mud, etc that our dogs like to track in.  I made a red and black rug for the kitchen and I'm in the process of making one more for the sink area.

Fridge frames

Since I've been in an organizing mood for a month now I wanted to clean up the fridge that we had all kinds of magnets, pictures, and clutter on.  I painted some Dollar Tree frames and put magnet strips on back.  It cleaned the fridge up great!  Hopefully my hubby will like it!  (He likes to collect magnets and all sorts of things to put on the fridge!)
The red frame on the left I attached a string and put little wooden clips to attach pictures.

painted fabric and painters tape canvas

I was looking at Pinterest and found a really good blog called Design Share.  It had a tablecloth that she put polyurethane on and used as a rug.  Brilliant idea!  So I went shopping for a awesome looking tablecloth and there was no luck!  I instead got a Home Depot paint canvas cloth and painted a chevron pattern (this pic will be coming soon).  I also decided to paint a chevron pattern with acrylic paints on some scrap fabric I had and then cover with polyurethane.  Here is the pic of that.

I needed a bit of color in the den so I decided to find some cheap canvases (at Michaels they were on sale).  I then put painters tape on the canvases and painted with acrylic paints.  They turned out cute!   I'm going to make a sunburst mirror to go in between so pics of that will be coming soon!

Coffee Table redo

I did a little redoing of the house this weekend.  I'm in an organizing/redoing phase right now so I will continue to put pics on the blog.

I redid the coffee table I've had for 10 years so it was nice for a change.  It was just stained a light oak stain so was pretty blah!
I painted the bottom and stained the top.  It looks really good in the den.

Made a little terrarium for the coffee table.  I have a tray I will redo that I will post later for it to sit in.

Terrarium and VDay Decor

Yes random...terrarium and valentines day decor but I'm that way.  I made a terrarium for about $12 for a housewarming gift for a friend and then made a couple vday decors.

You can't see the layers very well but I put large stones from Dollar Tree on bottom, then pebbles from the Dollar Tree, then soil for cactus and then the plants with some decorative black stones.

This tree didn't cost a thing!  Get a couple branches from your yard, a vase and cut out paper hearts; then hang with ribbon. Done!

I had some wood blocks leftover from a project that didn't work out.  I painted them red and then painted letters on them.  The plates are from the Dollar Tree that I painted pink, red and purple.  Then I added chalkboard paint to the middle of them.

A friend gave me an old frame so I painted the frame and painted chalkboard paint on the glass.  I will use all year round.

Chalkboard tray and frames

Here are a couple crafts I did right before Christmas.  Super easy and fast!  I will be crafting this spring for sure so keep checking in to see more pics!  I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and New Year!
D

Found an old frame at the thrift store, painted it, painted the glass with chalkboard paint (3 coats) and put drawer pulls on the sides.

Dollar Tree frames I painted and then painted the glass with chalkboard paint.  Made good gifts for the teachers I work for.
